  • AgroFresh Inc. is formed, employing 20 people worldwide. EthylBloc is registered for use on flowers in April by BioTechnologies for Horticulture, Inc. (BTH). Rohm and Haas Company purchases BTH in December, and subregisters Floralife Inc.

2000

  • Research and development on 1-Methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) technology proceeds, as work on registrations continues.

2002

  • First registration for SmartFresh technology is granted in Chile. U.S. registration is granted in July, and commercial launch in the U.S. on apples.

2003

  • SmartFresh provisional registration is approved in the UK, followed by the first launch in the European Union, South Africa and New Zealand.

2005

  • First research trials on pre-harvest technology begin.
  • Commercial launches in China and Korea.

2006

  • European Union approves SmartFresh technology registration.

2007

  • AgroFresh buys and sells Floralife, gaining full, exclusive rights to 1-Methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) technology.

2008

  • U.S. Environmental Protection Agency approves first pre-harvest use registration, and first commercial sale of Harvista technology takes place. AgroFresh and Syngenta form strategic alliance on Invinsa Crop Stress Protection.

2009

  • Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) admits SmartFresh technology 1-MCP as the global standard for product quality and safety.
  • FreshStart for tulip bulbs launched.

2010

  • SmartFresh technology proven to bring significant energy savings and contribute to carbon footprint reductions.

2011

  • Curico Service and Research Centre opens in Chile.
  • RipeLock Quality System for bananas pre-commercial trials started.

2012

  • SmartFresh InBox launched.

  • SmartFresh ProTabs introduced in the U.S.

  • Advanced Control Respiration (ACR) technology developed in cooperation with VA.
